The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved a new operating licence for Moneypoint power station, despite objections from environmental groups who are concerned that the permit is not abiding by the emission limits set out by new EU rules.

The new licence will allow for the burning of fuels at a continuous rate exceeding 50 megawatts and the establishment of a landfill that can receive more than 10 tonnes per day.

The EPA approved the permit because they are satisfied that any emissions from the activity will not have any additional negative impact on environmental pollution.
