After years of back and forth, the German government reached an agreement with the European Commission to build 12 GW of new power capacity, 10 GW of which is earmarked for “hydrogen ready” gas-fired power plants. Building new gas infrastructure will slow the transition to renewable energy, creating a vicious cycle of dependency.
