Powering up: Business perspectives on shifting to renewable electricity

DOWNLOAD THE REPORT

A new global poll of nearly 1,500 business executives reveals a clear tipping point: companies around the world back a shift away from fossil fuels to a renewables-based electricity system by 2035 or sooner.

‘Powering Up: Business perspectives on shifting to renewable electricity’ surveyed leaders from mid-sized and large companies across 15 major economies and emerging markets (Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Poland, South Africa, South Korea, Türkiye, UK and US). It was commissioned by Beyond Fossil Fuels, E3G and We Mean Business Coalition and conducted by Savanta.

Key findings:

  • 97% of business executives polled support a shift away from fossil fuels to renewables-based electricity
  • 8 in 10 want a renewables-based electricity system by 2035 or sooner
  • 2 in 3 reject fossil gas as a ‘transition fuel’, calling for a direct switch to renewable power
  • Half of all businesses polled would consider relocating their operations and supply chains within five years to access renewable electricity

The takeaway is clear: access to clean, reliable, renewables-based electricity is no longer just a climate goal; it’s a business priority. Governments that fail to respond risk falling behind in the global race for investment, jobs and energy security.
