Explore. Learn. Replicate.

Our goal is to make the wealth of knowledge about renewable energy accessible to everyone. Too often, successful case studies and toolkits are buried in dense reports, out of reach of those who need them most.

Our solutions mapping tool changes that, providing a user-friendly, searchable map that lets you find the information you need quickly and easily.

Why This Matters

By sharing and replicating successful renewable energy projects, we can accelerate the transition to a sustainable future.

There is no wheel to reinvent; we just need to find the wheel that best fits your terrain. This tool shows what’s possible and provides actionable insights and inspiration for your own projects.

Methodology

The examples presented on our map are sourced from a wide range of external reports, articles, and publications available online at the time of their inclusion. We aim to capture a broad representation of energy transition solutions, ensuring a diverse array of examples involving multiple actors and delivering a range of features. We classify these projects according to several keywords that align with our four main categories (Technology, Site, Actor, Key Features), for a comprehensive and nuanced representation of the energy transition landscape.

We recognise that no project is perfect and that the energy transition encompasses more than just technological solutions. For instance, while we support the need to rethink urban planning and reduce car dependency, we still include examples such as solar panels over car parks. This is not an endorsement of a car-centric society but a pragmatic recognition of current realities.

Our aim is to maintain the accuracy and relevance of the information presented. We encourage users to contact project owners directly for further details, using the links provided on the map. We also invite users to send us updates or corrections on specific projects to ensure the information remains current and reliable.

Disclaimer

It is important to note that these projects may not excel in all areas and may not be the best solutions from all perspectives. Implementing renewable energy solutions requires careful consideration of many factors to achieve overall success.

Our review process ensures that the examples presented are satisfactory in several respects, with particular emphasis on their outstanding features. We recognise the complexity of the energy transition and aim to provide a balanced and informative resource for our users.

Finally, this is not intended to be an exhaustive overview of all local renewable energy applications. We will keep it updated and welcome your input and suggestions.

Renewable Energy Benefit Sharing: a win-win for climate and communities

Renewable Energy Benefit Sharing: a win-win for climate and communities

Renewable energy comes in all sizes and shapes, from small-scale solar panels on rooftops to massive wind farms offshore. The beauty of renewables lies in their versatility and adaptability, allowing solutions to be tailored to meet the unique needs and priorities of each community. This diversity opens the door to creating a fair, clean, and prosperous energy future. Benefit sharing mechanisms are at the heart of this transformation. They ensure that renewable energy projects don’t just “land” in communities but actively involve and benefit them. When done right—not as a greenwashing exercise but through meaningful engagement and participation—benefit sharing creates win-win outcomes for developers and communities alike while advancing climate goals.
A more affordable, secure Italy starts at the local level

A more affordable, secure Italy starts at the local level

Local municipal governments are in a unique position to drive the energy transition forward with more ease and exponential impact. By leading the shift away from polluting fossil fuels and toward cleaner, fairer energy systems, local governments can protect their communities, bolster their local businesses, reduce electricity costs, and build lasting resilience. A growing number of municipalities in Italy as well as across Europe are already showing how it can be done. The rest of Italy, with its vast solar and wind potential, strong local governance structures, and EU funding opportunities, has every reason to join them.
